Something I had been so amazed by throughout my time playing the game and that had been so simply pointed out by hearts at the end of our playthrough was how the characters--in all their silly and simple dialogue--felt so real. In a game whose entire premise surrounds the idea of teenagers facing themselves and growing up, it is so important that the characters feel there enough for its audience to resonate with the themes the game seems to convey. Persona does this splendidly... at least until the last month. hearts pointed out to me how darn bored I seemed to be getting and it's true: Persona 4 Golden's extra stretch at the end is distracting, irrelevant, and plays with the cast by taking bits of their gags and magnifying them until you couldn't see them as the same characters, something I was disappointed by but found incredibly amusing. But what that did illuminate was how much of a contrast there was between the "old" characters and the "new" characters. February turned the Persona cast into a quirkless Danganronpa characters playing in the snow, but I appreciate how much more it makes you realize how limitless and realistic the characters were before.

Out of all the characters, Yosuke defies the tropes typology tries to convince you of relating to the most. He's not a mad scientist, "intellectually provocative," a genius, a constant idea generator, a prankster full of wit, or anything else his type would suggest he is based on a quick Google search about ENTPs and Sevens. Yukiko--an INFP--and Chie--an ENFJ--also have the exact same relationships with their types but with all that dogmatic nonsense about ENTPs, Yosuke takes the cake for being just about nothing like what INFJs on the internet bragging about their ENTP boyfriends ever see worth talking about. He's whiny, cowardly, petty, and high-strung... yet a great friend. The conflicts that constantly pop up never deter the brotherly bond between Yosuke and the narrator, and you really realize how bluntly the game parallels reality in the relationships realm while being so fantastical with everything else.

I do see a case for Yosuke being a 6 but in the end, he's always just looking for a good time and the more negatively shown 6 side to him does come off more as an "afterthought" in relation to his more fun-loving self. I don't think he could be anything but an ENTP given everything about where his mental energy is directed but the wonder of it lies in that you wouldn't immediately associate that type with a character like him, and I just love that.
