Not everything you read about North Korea is true. Kim is the least tyrannical of the three Kims. He has ghostwriters, and has basically been taught how to act like his grandfather.

He was forced into his current position after his older brother was disinherited by his erratic father. Kim Il-Sung was the SLE V first of the dynasty: he created Juche and forced his son to keep exactly in step. Kim Jong-Il was insecure and mentally ill, Kim Jong-Un is literally scared for his life so acts like his predecessors to keep from being killed in a coup.
